Exam Details

The NEET (UG) is being conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) since 2019 with the approval of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Human Resource Development (which is now known as the Ministry of Education), inpursuance of the direction of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India vide Judgementdated 22.11. 2018 in C.A. No. 11230 of 2018 in the matter of CBSE Vs. T.K. Rangarajan & Ors. (Para 22). Before NTA, the NEET (UG) was being conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

As per Section 14 of The National Medical Commission Act, 2019 (Appendix-I), which has come into force on 24th September 2020, NEET (UG) has to be conducted as a common and uniform National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to the undergraduate medical education in all medical institutions, including those governed under any other law in force.

The NEET (UG) - 2021 is going to be conducted by NTA as per the Schedule given in theInformation at a Glance for admission to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BSMS, BUMS, and BHMSCourses as per the relevant norms/guidelines/regulations notified by the concernedRegulatory Bodies. 

Pattern of the Test

The Test pattern of NEET (UG)-2021 comprises of two Sections. Each subject will consist of two sections. Section A will consist of 35 Questions and Section B will have 15 questions, out of these 15 Questions, candidates can choose to attempt any 10 Questions. So, the total number of questions and utilization of time will remain the same.

Mode of Examination: NEET (UG) – 2021 is a Pen & Paper-based Test, to be answered on the specially designed machine gradable OMR sheet using Ball Point Pen.

Duration of Test: The duration of the test would be three (03) hours.

Admissions to all seats of Undergraduate Medical / Dental Courses will be done through NEET (UG) - 2021. The following are the seats available under different quotas:

i. All India Quota Seats

ii. State Government Quota Seats

iii. Central Institutions/Universities/Deemed Universities

iv. State/Management/NRI Quota Seats in Private Medical / Dental

Colleges or any Private University

v. Central Pool Quota Seats

vi. All seats including NRI Quota as well as Management Quota, in private unaided/aided minority / non-minority medical colleges.

vii. AIIMS Institutes across India/JIPMER.

The Counselling for successful candidates for Seats under 15% All India Quota and 100% including 85% State quota seats of Central Institutions (ABVIMS & RML Hospital/VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital/ESIC)/ Central Universities (including DU/ BHU /AMU)/ AIIMS/ JIPMER and Deemed Universities, will be conducted by the MCC/DGHS for Undergraduate Medical / Dental Courses. MCC only does the registration for AFMC and forwards the data of registered Candidates to AFMC Authorities for the admission process. DU/BHU and other Universities may use the score for any other relevant courses being offered by them.

The counselling for admission to the seats under the control of StateGovernments/ UT Administrations / State Universities/ Institutions shall beconducted by the designated authorities of the State Governments as per thenotifications issued separately by the authorities concerned.

Eligibility

(i) Indian Nationals, Non Resident Indians (NRI’s), Overseas Citizen of India (OCI’s), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO’s) & Foreign Nationals are eligible for appearing in the NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY CUM ENTRANCE TEST (UG), 2021.

(ii) The candidate must have completed age of 17 years at the time of admission or will complete the age on or before 31st December, 2021 i.e. the year of his/her admission to the 1st year M.B.B.S./B.D.S. Course. 

(iii) The upper age limit for candidates seeking admission in MBBS/BDS seats shall be 25 years as on the date of examination with a relaxation of 5 years for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC category and persons entitled for reservation under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.

  • For Candidates of Unreserved Category (UR) born on or between 05.05.1996 and 31.12.2004
  • For Candidates of SC/ST/OBC/PH Category born on or between 05.05.1991 and31.12.2004

(iv) The candidate must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Bio-technology at the qualifying examination.

(v) In respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribes/Other Backward Classes, the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology taken together in qualifying examination be 40% instead of 50% for General category candidates.

(vi) In respect of the candidates with benchmark disabilities specified under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology taken together in qualifying examination shall be 45% instead of 50% for General category candidates and 40% for SC/ST/OBC candidates.

(vii) Provided that two years of regular and continuous study of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology taken together shall be required at 10+2 level for all the candidates.

(viii) Candidates who have passed 10+2 from Open Schools or as Private candidates shall not be eligible to appear for National Eligibility-cumEntrance Test-UG. Furthermore, study of Biology/Bio-technology as an Additional Subject at 10+2 level also shall not be permissible.

(ix) Those who are appearing in Class 10+2Q examination in 2021 can also appear for the entrance test provisionally subject to their fulfilling the conditions later.

(x) As the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telengana have decided to join and contribute their MBBS/BDS seats for the allotment to the candidates under 15% All India Quota from the academic year 2020-21 onward, the candidates belonging to these States shall also be eligible for 15% All India Quota seats.

Syllabus

Syllabus of the Test

NMC (National Medical Commission) has notified the syllabus of NEET (UG)-2021. The Question Paper will be based on the given syllabus(Appendix-V) which is available at the NMC website (https://www.nmc.org.in/neet/neet-ug).

Furthermore, to rationalize the decision of reduction in the syllabus by various School Education Boards, the NTA has taken the decision to provide choice in Section “B” for each of the 4 (four) subjects.

 

Fees

Candidates may pay  the fee in the following manner

  •  Debit/Credit card and Net Banking
  • Cash Deposit through e-challan

FOR GENERAL/OBC: Rs. 1,500/-

General-EWS/ OBC-NCL: Rs. 1,400/-

SC/ST/PwBD/Third Gender: Rs. 800/- 

Outside India: Rs. 7,500/-

Processing charges & Goods and Services Tax (GST) are to be paid by the candidate,as applicable.

Admission process

1. Candidates can apply for NEET (UG)-2021 through the “Online” mode only.

2. Submission of the Online Application Form may be done by accessing the NTA website https://neet.nta.nic.in/. The Application Form in any other mode will not be accepted.

3. Only one application is to be submitted by a candidate.

4. Candidates must follow the instructions given in the Information Bulletin and on the NTA website strictly. Candidates not complying with the instructions shall be summarily disqualified.

5. Candidates must ensure that the e-mail Address and Mobile Number provided in the Online Application Form are their own or Parents/Guardians only as all information/ communication will be sent by NTA through e-mail on the registered e-mail address or SMS on registered Mobile Number only.

6. Instructions for filling Online Application Form:

In order to ensure that the candidate data is submitted quickly, the Application Form for NEET (UG) – 2021 has been divided into Two Sets/Phases.

The first set of information needs to be filled up before the last date of submission of the online Application Form. The second set of information needs to be filled up by the candidates before the declaration of the Result/ downloading of Score Card during the period that would be notified separately through NEET (UG) Portal in due course.

All candidates shall fill up each set of information of the Application Form at therespective time of availability. In the absence of filling up of any of the set of information,his/her candidature will be cancelled.

Follow the steps given below to Apply Online:

Step-1: Apply for Online Registration using your Parents/Guardians or your own unique Email Id and Mobile No.

Step-2: Fill in the Online Application Form and note down the system generated Application No.

Step-3: Upload scanned images of candidate’s latest passport size photograph.

Step-4: Pay the fee using SBI/Canara Bank/HDFC/ICICI/Paytm Payment Gateway through Debit Card/Credit Card/Net-banking/UPI/Wallet and keep proof of fee paid safely for future reference.

Score Result

The Result of NEET (UG) - 2021 may be utilized by other Entities of Central andState Governments, in accordance with their respective eligibility criteria /other norms /applicable regulations/guidelines/ rules.

The result data will alsobe utilized for B.Sc. (H) Nursing courses in accordance with their respectiveeligibility criteria / other norms /applicable regulations/guidelines/ rules. TheNEET (UG) – 2021 data will also be used for admissions to BVSc & AH coursesunder the 15% quota of VCI in recognized Veterinary Colleges.

However, the Council has to approach the MCC of DGHS, MoHFW in order to obtain the saiddata of results. 

An All India Merit List of the qualified candidates shall be prepared on the basis of All India Rank in the Merit List of the NEET (UG) - 2021 and candidates shall be admitted to Undergraduate Medical Courses from the said list only, with existing reservation policy. NTA will only provide All India Rank to candidates while Admitting Authorities will invite applications for Counselling and a merit list shall be drawn based on All India Rank by the Admitting Authorities. Admission to Undergraduate Medical Courses within the respective categories shall be based solely on All India Rank as per merit list of NEET (UG) - 2021.

Admission to 15% All India Quota, shall be as per the provisions of the Statutory Regulation of MCI/NMC/DCI, the judgments of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India and the procedure prescribed by the MCC under the DGHS. Similarly, for admission to 85%, State Quota shall be also as per the provisions of the Statutory Regulations of MCI/NMC/DCI, the judgments of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India and the prescribed rules and regulations by the State/Union Govt. or its designated authority.

Reservation Policy for Admission to MBBS and BDS Course

Reservation in All India Quota:

Reservation in All India Quota seats shall be as follows:

  • S.C.- 15%
  • S.T.- 7.5%
  • PwBD- 5% Horizontal Reservation
  • OBC (Non- Creamy Layer)- 27 % Only in National Institutes/Central Universities
  • EWS- 10% Only in National Institutes/Central Universities
